Dr. Burak Falay, a faculty member of our University's Department of Archaeology, participated in the international conference "Ethnoarchaeology of Livelihood Practices: Exploring the Nexus of Food Production, Resource Management, and Sustainability" held at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. Dr. Falay presented his paper "Adaptation to Environmental Conditions and Food Production in the Volcanic Cappadocia Region: Traditional Livestock Husbandry Strategies in Temporary Settlements (Niğde, Turkey)" at the conference.

Dr. Burak Falay's presentation addresses the traditional strategies of adaptation to environmental conditions and food production of communities with a livestock-based subsistence economy in the Melendiz region of Niğde province. The research, supported by ethnographic and ethnoarchaeological field studies, examines how these communities supplement their limited agricultural activities with animal food production and the contribution of cooperation between herd owners and shepherds to sustainable food production.

With the start of the new academic year, on Monday, October 30, our department's Assist. Prof. Dr. Serhat FOÇA provided orientation training to the first-year students for whom he is an academic advisor. During the orientation training, students were provided with detailed information about their responsibilities defined by the regulations and the opportunities provided to them by our department, our university's Continuing Education Center, Student Associations, etc.

Our department research assistant, H. Burak SOY, participated in the international congress titled "Revisiting the Turkish-Greek Population Exchange at its Centennial" organized by Cappadocia University in Ürgüp, Mustafapaşa between 19-21 September with his presentation titled "Cultural Heritage Discourses on the Land of Ionia: Literary Perspectives from the Two Sides of the Aegean Sea".

 

Our department's Assistant Professor Burak FALAY participated in the 30th European Archaeologists Association Congress (EAA 2024) held in Rome, Italy, between 28-31 August 2024 with a poster presentation titled "Adaptation and Resilience: Sustainable Subsistence Strategies in Volcanic Cappadocia through Ethnographic Perspective".

 

TNKU Archaeology Student Society organized a technical trip on Saturday, July 6, 2024, to observe the archaeological excavations at Marmara Ereğlisi/Perinthos Ancient City, which are being carried out under the presidency of Prof. Dr. Zeynep Erdem, Head of Archaeology Department at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. The technical trip complemented the conference given by Prof. Dr. Zeynep Erdem at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Conference Hall last spring semester and organized by the Society. In the event organized by TNKU Archaeology Student Society, Trakya University Archaeology Department, Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology Department Head Prof. Dr. Özlem ÇEVİK-GÜÇYILMAZ gave a conference about the excavations she is heading in İzmir-Ulucak Mound. The event was held in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Conference Hall on Thursday, May 16, at 14:00. After the event, Archaeology Student Society members had the opportunity to chat with Prof. Dr. Özlem ÇEVİK-GÜÇYILMAZ in the Archaeology Laboratory.

 

In an event organized by the TNKU Archaeology Student Society, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Archaeology Department Head Prof. Dr. Zeynep KOÇEL-ERDEM gave a conference on the excavations she is heading in the Marmara Ereğlisi-Perinthos Ancient City. The event was held in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Conference Hall on Thursday, May 2 at 14:00. Dr. Serpil Sandalcı from Tekirdağ Archaeology Museum gave practical training for the "Small Artifact Drawing" course to 2nd-grade students in the Laboratory of the Archaeology Department. 24.05.2023

 

Within the scope of the 2023 Thrace University Union, our Archaeology Department organized an online scientific meeting titled ''Archaeology, History and Art History Meetings''. 28.04.2023

 

At the beginning of the 2022-2023 Academic Year, an orientation meeting was held for the first-year students of the Archaeology Department undergraduate program in the Archaeology Laboratory, which included a general introduction to the department and the university. The Archaeology Library, established in the Archaeology Laboratory, and the reference management system organized for this library were shown. The units used as classrooms and study areas were introduced. Information was given about the archaeological materials found in the laboratory. 30.09.2022

 

As the implementation phase of the research titled “Developing the Thoughts of Archaeologist Candidates on Educational Exhibitions through Museum Experience”, a museum education study was carried out on June 25, 2022, at the Çanakkale Troy Museum with a group of 15 3rd and 4th-grade students who had taken the courses “Protection of Archaeological Heritage and Museums” and “Museum Studies II”.

 

On 06/20/2022, the department faculty members organized a celebration for the graduating students of the 2021-2022 term at the Archaeology Laboratory.

 

 

 

Prof. Dr. Hatice Kalkan carried out education and training activities at the "Trakya University Vocational School Ceramics Application Center" to support the theoretical basic ceramics course with a practical course for the archaeology department students.
