Program Profile |
Archaeology education, in addition to providing an essential mission in understanding and explaining the historical and cultural depth of the geography we live in, also contributes to the need for expertise brought about by professional knowledge and experience. Our department, under the name of Archaeology Department, offers our students a comprehensive course content starting from the Paleolithic period to the end of the Roman period in the fields of Prehistoric Archaeology, Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology, and Classical Archaeology. In addition to theoretical courses, our students aim to gain field experience through practical training by participating in field and laboratory studies planned to be carried out within the department and the borders of the Republic of Turkey. |

Professional Profiles of Graduates |
Our graduates can be appointed as expert archaeologists in public and private museums, conservation boards, and municipalities and serve as expert witnesses in judicial matters, depending on the prerequisite of having a bachelor's degree in archaeology. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Moving to postgraduate level |
Candidates who complete their undergraduate education can study in postgraduate (master's and doctoral) programs if they receive a passing score on the ALES exam and have sufficient knowledge of the English language.

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Exams, Assessment and Grading |
At least one midterm exam is given each term. In addition to midterms, projects, and assignments are provided at the beginning of each term, with specified dates in the term content. The student must take a final exam at the end of each term. The criteria (such as midterm exams, projects, assignments, and finals) and their impact on the final grade are clearly stated in the course content distributed at the beginning of the term and/or published on the website. According to the student regulations and the academic calendar, final exams are held on the dates, places, and times determined and announced by the university. The course instructor gives the students their final grade according to the results of the midterm, project, assignment, and final exam.
The passing grade at Namık Kemal University is 60 out of 100. However, the final or make-up exam result must be at least 50. Exams are evaluated out of 100 as a total grade. A course's end-of-term/year grade is 40% of the arithmetic average of the midterm exam or midterm exams and 60% of the grade received in the end-of-term/year exam or make-up exam. The end-of-term and make-up grades are submitted to the Student Affairs Office by the person responsible for the course, together with the evaluation criteria. End-of-term and make-up grades are published and announced in the student information system.
Grades:
Students are given the following letter grades for each course taken as their term grades. The letter grades, coefficients, and ratios are as follows. The grading system used as a basis for evaluating students' success is expressed with the following degrees and letters:
Students must take the courses for which they received a DD, FD, or FF in the first semester they are offered.
