Our faculty member Assist. Prof. Dr. Serhat Foça continues his work as a team member at the Old Smyrna Excavation in the Bayraklı district of İzmir as of August 2024. Within the scope of the Volunteer Project, a group of first-grade students of our department take part in the Old Smyrna Excavation at decided periods throughout August and continue to practice the theoretical training they received throughout the year.
Tepecik-Çiftlik Mound, where one of the faculty members Assist. Prof. Dr. Burak Falay is conducting research, is located in the south of the Central Anatolian Plateau, southwest of the Cappadocia Region, within the borders of the Çiftlik district of Niğde province. The settlement is located very close to the Central Anatolian obsidian deposits, where obsidian, an essential raw material source for prehistoric people, is found. A total of 10 layers of the Late Roman-Early Byzantine, Early Chalcolithic, and Pottery Neolithic and Pre-Pottery Neolithic periods have been identified in Tepecik-Çiftlik.
The 2024 archaeological research at Tepecik-Çiftlik Mound is carried out under the Presidency of Niğde Museum and the Scientific Consultancy of Istanbul University Research Assist. Dr. Yasin Gökhan Çakan continues with material and inventory studies. The project titled “Plastered Skulls from the Neolithic Period in Tepecik Ciftlik: Interregional Comparisons with Archaeometric Analyses” supported by Namık Kemal University Scientific Research Project Unit, under the directory of Assist. Prof. Dr. Burak Falay, with research participants Research Assist. Dr. Yasin Gökhan and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Metin Büyükkarakaya is also ongoing. Ceren Yalçın, one of our students, is continuing her applied archaeology education by participating in the Tepecik-Ciftlik Archaeological research in 2024.
Our undergraduate students, who applied for and were accepted to the TÜBİTAK-Intern Researcher Scholarship Program during the 1st call of 2022, participated in the Gürcütepe excavations carried out within the Şanlıurfa Neolithic Research Project.
In the summer of 2022, our students participated in the Epiphaneia Ancient City in Hatay province, the Aigai Ancient City in Manisa province, and the Gürcütepe excavations carried out within the scope of the Şanlıurfa Neolithic Research Project to continue their archaeology education.

Tepecik-Çiftlik Mound excavations have been carried out every summer break since 2000 with the permission of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Assist. Prof. Dr. Burak Falay is working as a team member in Tepecik-Çiftlik excavations during the summer break period of 2022.
